Roles below match the founding discussion and the canonical vocabulary in Product/Domain Terminology. Phase 1 may collapse several roles onto one person on one free device; distinct devices per role typically require paid multi-device sync.
Starter / survival entrepreneur (primary near-term segment)
External feedback (31 Aug 2026) highlighted merchants starting or restarting a business — often moving away from corporate employment — as the largest near-term mobile POS market. They typically:
- Already own a phone or affordable tablet; do not want to buy dedicated counter PC software.
- Need offline-capable kasir + inventory without monthly cloud subscription.
- Settle with cash, existing EDC, or static QRIS; are sensitive to payment-gateway and SaaS fees (see Product/Competitive Landscape).
- Operate warung, micro-retail, café, or small F&B — not yet multi-outlet chains.
Lakuyo Phase 1 optimises for this segment on any device they already own — phone, tablet, Mac, or Windows PC. Android POS terminals cover dedicated counter hardware; macOS and Windows cover established counter PCs.
Admin
Store owner or manager. Completes setup, manages catalogue and prices, configures tax/settings, manages local backup, and decides whether to subscribe for multi-device/cloud. In Phase 3, may enable customer membership (member pricing, registration/member discounts, member registry — POS-024). May also act as kasir, Sales, or Inventory.
Kasir (Cashier)
Runs the primary checkout device (usually a tablet or Android POS terminal). Needs fast product selection, cart editing, payment confirmation (cash / EDC / QRIS manual), and receipt printing/sharing — including thermal print of invoice/struk to paired ESC/POS printers (POS-023). The Kasir completes a Sale. Must work without internet. UX must stay simple and fast.
Sales
Assists customers and may create or prepare an Order before checkout. Typical tasks include product lookup, stock lookup, customer assistance, and order-taking on a phone or tablet. Sales is a staff role; it must not be confused with Sale, which means a completed commercial transaction.
Retail example: Sales helps a customer choose products and prepares an Order; Kasir later completes the Sale.
Inventory clerk
Updates stock counts, receives goods, records adjustments, and investigates discrepancies. Primarily uses Inventory and product screens; may share a device with Kasir on the Free tier.
Waiter / Floor staff (café & restaurant)
A restaurant/café-specialized Sales role. Uses a phone to take table Orders, add items, and send Orders toward kitchen/fulfilment or Kasir. A Waiter normally creates or updates an Order; checkout/payment later creates the Sale. Detailed flows remain Phase 3 (POS-016…018).
(Paid) Multi-outlet operator — Phase 3
Manages more than one outlet; needs consolidated reporting and stock transfers. Out of scope for Phase 1.
